For Sale: Our RV!

After 7 months on the road, we’ve decided that we need to move into a bigger place.  Interested in owning a 2011 Wildwood XLite 26BH with a kosher kitchen and a vaguely interesting pedigree? If so, please use the “Contact Us” link in the Menu above!

It now looks like we will be transitioning to a one-ton 4×4 diesel crew cab long bed pickup towing a five-slide bunkhouse fifth wheel.  Contenders in the truck category include the Ford F350, Ram 3500, Silverado 3500, and Sierra 3500.  The new RV will most likely be the Keystone Avalanche 360RB.  Other 5-slide bunkhouse fifth wheels with twin bunkhouse slides are contenders, including the Heartland Gateway 3650BH, Heartland Silverado 38QBS, Coachman Brookstone 365BH, Dutchman Denali 361BHS, Dutchman Infinity 3710BH, KZ Durango 355BH, Keystone Avalanche 361TG, and the no-longer-produced Forest River Blueridge 3704BH.

This is a huge step for us, but now that it looks like we will be on the road for some time to come, it really is time for us to move into a unit that gives all of us a little more breathing room.

Today I test drove the F350 and Ram 3500.  They are monsters, and, at about 23 feet long, they are not so easy to park, but that’s the kind of truck we will need to tow a fifth wheel whose dry weight is somewhere in the 12,000 pound range, about three times heavier than our current RV.

Stay tuned, big decisions are coming up!

  1. I just checked out the link to the pictures of the Keystone Avalanche. That thing is so big that it should come with its own zip code! 😉

  2. Why are you getting the long bed? Wouldnt a short bed accommodate the fifth wheel and be a bit easier to maneuver and park?
Also are you going with a dually? Those are amazing for towing.

    • The short bed requires a special hitch, whereas the long bed can use a standard hitch. The increased wheelbase provides better towing stability. It’s true, this truck is difficult to park, etc.

The dually would give us higher capacities, but we will be OK with the single rear axle, and the dually is tough to fit into a parking spot.
