Day 498: Art and Wheels

Today in Geography Through Art, the kids learned about Sumi-e, the art of Japanese ink wash painting:

Somehow M got some ink on his face:

The kids painted both Chanukah objects as well as traditional Japanese objects:

I rotated the truck wheels to get more even tire wear:

At dusk, the kids rode bikes while Trish and I walked to Micha’s trailer and back:

We aren’t big Chanukah gift givers, but we did give each kid a giant Hershey’s Kiss:

Happy third night of Chanukah!

Day 497: RV Fixin’ with Tattie

Today, part of home school was RV Fixin’ With Tattie. B and I removed the ladder from the RV, as most of the screws had vibrated loose. We applied Locktite and put it back together and reattached it to the RV, adding fresh caulk in the process:

I told M how to install into the wall an outlet that had lost its old mount position when I split the bunkhouse into two rooms. He did all the work:

It has been cold and cloudy for the past few days, something we’re told is quite rare in these parts. We are looking forward to warmer days ahead.

Day 496: A Chilly (for Las Vegas) Chanukah

After home school, M started to replace the transfer case on his motorcycle. The original was replaced under warranty, and we picked it up yesterday when we went into town. In the process, we discovered that the clutch is worn out, so I called to order a new one. Since they don’t yet have it available for sale, the company is shipping one to us for free:

We also received a bike chain to replace the one I broke last week. I installed it this afternoon:

Today was dreary and cold, only in the high 50s. We’re hoping for warmer weather in a couple days.

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah. It’s quite possible that ours is the first Chanukah candlelight to fall upon Jean Lake:

Happy Chanukah to our Jewish readers, whether your home has wheels or not!

Day 495: In-Town Day

Today, we came in to Las Vegas to visit my parents and tour the local day school, as well as do laundry, fill up our 45 gallon portable water bladder, buy some propane, and restock our refrigerator. We also picked up a couple packages that were waiting for us.

Trish drove in with the kids, and I biked in from Jean Lake. The headwinds made for slow going:

We filled up the truck on the way out of town with what might be the cheapest diesel we’ve seen on the trip so far:

Day 494: The Lake is Dry Again

Shabbos was comparatively quiet, as the wet lake bed kept away most of the weekend warriors. By the afternoon, it had dried out enough that we could go for a walk.

This morning, B and I remounted her door so it swings into her room, making it easier to get through the door I added that goes to the bathroom. It’s actually a class of their home school schedule called “RV fixin’ with Tattie”:

This afternoon, local PPGer Tuan and his wife showed up for some flying. He packed it in after one flight due to turbulence, not surprising as we just finished up a couple days of windy weather:

Not much else to report, just a solid daily homeschooling schedule. We’re really enjoying not moving every few days.
