This morning the weather was grim. The forecast showed mist and fog, then high winds gusting to 40MPH moving in around midnight:
Another yummy RV breakfast, featuring FakeBakon™:
We laid out the shells and shell fragments we collected this week:
The kids played in the surf again. Note the fog reducing visibility to a few hundred feet:
I went for a bike ride. The fog dissipated as it moved inland beyond the beach, so the bay side of the island was clear. I watched the horses out in the marsh:
After riding a bit on the mainland, I came back to find this fellow right near the road:
Another horse along the island road:
By the time I returned to the RV, the fog had cleared, so I went for flight #114:
Trish photographed me from the RV as I came in to land:
If you have to live in one place, it might as well be here. I’m glad scenery like this is only a short bike ride away. The cool days of late summer aren’t bad either:
After considerable efforts, we failed to find a place to park in Santa Fe for Shabbos, so we decided to stay here at the Camel Rock Casino for Shabbos.
Today we drove into Santa Fe to visit the New Mexico State Capitol building, the only round capitol building in the US:
The Senate chamber:
The House of Representatives chamber:
The capitol building’s walls are covered in art wherever possible, including this work in which the artist painted a portrait of Frida Kahlo with the artist’s grandmother:
View from the balcony:
This buffalo head was made from all different kinds of materials. For example, the “fur” between the eyes is made of paintbrushes:
The office of the Governor:
We walked through the hallways that led to the North Capitol building:
This interactive sculpture is called “Political Machine”. It didn’t work well. Perhaps that’s the point:
The North Capitol building:
We next stopped at a used book store. The owner suggested things to see in the area:
As casino camping goes, this is a pretty nice spot:
I went for a ride up into the mountains. The pavement ended at this trailhead:
View on the way back down:
On the way back to the RV, I stopped by Camel Rock, the geographic feature for which the casino is named:
This morning I went out to fly. My first launch attempt failed, and in the process of taking off the motor I hurt my back, so that was the end of that. I did notice a problem with one of my lines, so I took my wing over to Michelle’s shop.
Michelle was working on a wing that ended up in the prop:
The sheathing on one of my lines was damaged. We pulled the sheathing apart to check the Kevlar core of the line:
The core is good, so I’ll be saving the line as a spare. Michelle made a new line for me and showed me how to install it. Thanks!
I went for a ride this afternoon which included a visit to this massive radar dome:
While I was gone, Trish and B made a cake to celebrate yesterday’s 100th solo flight:
