Day 268: Leaving Las Vegas!

This morning we stopped at Lowes for some last minute hardware. If you ever go shopping with kids, ditch ’em at the lighting display, they won’t notice for some time :

Our grocery bill at Smith’s was so large today that it tripped anti-fraud protections on both of our credit cards. Grrr!

We drove through Death Valley where we dumped tanks next to the visitor center. It was 105 degrees in the shade.

We continued out of Death Valley over Townes pass, our first real test of the new truck and RV. We climbed the 5000 feet of vertical at about 50 miles an hour, not bad I thought. We then continued down into the Panamint Sink and up another dicey climb to the Darrin Plateau, where we stopped on BLM land near the turnoff for Darwin. We’re at 5200 feet here, so it should be quite a bit cooler here than it was in Las Vegas.

Good Shabbos from the foothills of the Eastern Sierra! See the trip map for today’s route.

Day 261: Homeless, Day 3

We once again left our RV at Camping World and drove over to my parent’s house.

After another day of cleaning, we took the RV back to storage.  Here the old RV says goodbye to my parent’s house:

We picked up our RV.  Camping World refused to replace the inverter they destroyed, first blaming me for the issue and then suggesting I lie to the inverter manufacturer, say it spontaneously broke, and ask for a new one under warranty.

Sleazy.

Good Shabbos from BLM land just south of Las Vegas!

Day 260: Homeless, Day 2

Once again we dropped off the new RV at Camping World’s service department and headed over to my parent’s house.  Zayde realized that B is the Engineer in the family, so here he is showing B how to etch a PCB:

Day258_01

Last night I discovered that Camping World had destroyed our inverter by plugging in the RV and turning on the main breaker before turning off the inverter breaker.  Hopefully they will pay for the damage they’ve done.  We’re once again overnighting in their lot as they have a third day of repairs to do on the new RV.

Day 259: Cleaning out the old RV

The last two days of Passover were nice and thankfully not as hot as the beginning of Passover. Last night we said goodbye to MKT’s parking lot and headed back to BLM land.

This morning we dropped off our new RV for the day at Camping World for warranty repair for components that were DOA when we purchased the new RV.  We packed what we needed for the day and headed over to my parent’s house.

Today we retrieved the old RV from storage and scrubbed it inside and out and posted it as for sale to Craig’s List and RV Trader.  She cleans up pretty good:

Toinight we’re camped in the Camping World parking lot.  We will be here for at least another day for repairs on the new RV.

Day 250: Transition to Passover

Today was a crazy day! We burned our chometz this morning.  I then dropped off the old RV at a storage facility where it will reside for the duration of the holiday:

I then went back to our BLM spot and picked up our new RV, and parked it at my parent’s synagogue, which has an large parking lot.  Thanks to MKT for hosting us for Passover!

Passover begins with a two day holiday period, so we’ll see you in a couple days!
