Autumn Views and Junior Ranger Badges

Yesterday I rode up to the top of Bear Mountain with David.  For a comparison of the Bear Mountain climb to the big climbs of the West, see Day 274.  The Autumn colors are fantastic:

Today we received Junior Ranger badges from parks we visited on the trip.  We visited Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument on Day 961, but they didn’t have the badges and patches at the time:

The park is one of the growing number of National Monuments administered by the BLM, not NPS, so the badges are different:

We visited San Juan Island National Historical Park on Day 440, but the visitor center was closed that day, so we received the badges by mail:

Pretty Light and a Mower Fix

Even suburbia can be fetching when the early morning sun cuts through the fog:

Our mower’s deck has rusted out, so I found a 2”x8” lumber hanger and welded it onto the mower to return the mower to its former glory.  Or at least hold it together until the end of the season:

More Junior Ranger Badges

We received three Junior Ranger badges by mail today.  The kids had submitted the workbooks for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail by mail:

We visited Hamilton Grange National Memorial on Day 785.  11 Months later, the kids received their badges:
