Summer 2018, Day 17: Cedar Breaks NM

This morning we continued northwest into Utah:

We dropped the RV and drove up the steep, winding climb to Cedar Breaks National Monument:

It was over 100 down below, but up here at 10,400 feet, it was rainy and in the 60s.  We never visited here before because the roads are only open in the summer.  It’s similar to Bryce Canyon National Park:

With the lower air pressure, the potato chips bag was really inflated:

We stopped at a number of overlooks:

Summer 2018, Day 16: Two Guns, Grand Canyon NP

We woke up to a nice morning at Two Guns:

I intended to fly to Meteor Crater this morning, but the forecast for winds aloft didn’t look good, so I drove the motorcycle around:

I poked around Two Guns.  This abandoned tourist attraction went out of business once Route 66 was closed:

I rode to the edge of Diablo Canyon:

We found a dead bison near the RV:

We continued west to Flagstaff, then north to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  Our first stop was an overlook of the Little Colorado River on the Navajo Reservation:

Next we stopped at Desert View on the South Rim.  We were last here in 2011, so I thought we should see it again to compare it to North Rim, which we’re going to visit for the first time later today:

We drove back to the highway, then north to the river crossing at Marble Canyon, then west towards the North Rim.  Nice views along the way:

After a steep climb, we arrived at Jacob Lake at 7,925 feet above sea level:

We unhitched the RV at the gas station and drove the truck towards the North Rim:

Summer 2018, Day 15: Tisha B’Av in Albuquerque

Shabbos in Albuquerque was hot, with a high of 106.  We were only able to run one air conditioner from the outside outlet at the Chabad, so it was pretty warm in the RV as well, but with the new center-mounted A/C unit we were able to keep the living room livable.

Today is Tisha B’Av, so services at Chabad lasted until about noon.  After midday, we closed up the RV and continued west into Arizona:

We had great clouds in the late afternoon:

Tonight we’re dispersed camping near the ghost town of Two Guns, Arizona.  I hope to fly my PPG to Meteor Crater tomorrow morning:

Summer 2018, Day 13: Tire Upgrade and Radiator Repair

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise at Paramotor City:

Summer_2018_Day13_001

I tried flying, but the wind kept shifting directions which foiled my launch attempts:

In the afternoon we relocated to the Chabad of Albuquerque:

Summer_2018_Day13_006

I drove over to a building shared by a tire shop and a radiator shop, which was convenient as I upgraded our other two RV tires and our spare, one of which failed yesterday, to 14-ply tires so they now match the other two we upgraded a few days ago.  While that was being done, the radiator shop replaced a leaking coolant hose on the truck that’s been causing us trouble for the past few days:

Back at the RV, Trish and the kids got ready for Shabbos:
