Day 422: To Portland for Yom Kippur

After a pleasant morning, we said goodbye to Jason and Carrie and their kids and drove back to Portland for Yom Kippur. We were asked to find another place to park for the holiday, and thankfully Chabad of Oregon is able to accommodate us at their school campus. We parked nearby waiting for the lot to clear:

It was a tight fit, but we got it in here:

Day 421: Biking and Farming in Banks

This afternoon, I rode down to Banks to the beginning of the Banks-Vernonia Trail and rode to Vernonia and back.

In Vernonia, I passed the private bridge to the Sword Homestead, the only residence in town that’s on the other side of the river:

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Trish and the kids worked with Carrie and her kids to spread manure as the first step to creating a garden:

Tomorrow, we will pack up and head back to Portland for Yom Kippur.

Day 420: Cats and Cooking in Banks

This morning M made breakfast for himself for the first time.  He has not yet said he wants to be a chef when he grows up:

Carrie and Jason have a new farm kitten, as of yet unnamed:

Trish and the kids spread out more straw today:

After two days of being cloistered in the RV, I finished our 2013 taxes (we had filed an extension, so I had until 10/15 to get them done).  I’m looking forward to doing something else tomorrow!

Tonight, the adults played Ticket to Ride.  Another fun game!

Day 418: Reposition to Banks

This morning, while I got the RV ready for travel, Trish took the kids to the local skate park.  It was raining, which might be why there wasn’t much of a crowd:

This afternoon we drove West to high school friends Jason and Carrie’s house near Banks, where we will probably be spending the rest of the week.  See the trip map for driving details.
