The view is amazing considering we’re only 10 minutes from Lowe’s in Las Vegas:

We left my parent’s house at 5am to insure that we arrived at the border by 11am for B’s filling appointment in Los Algodones, Mexico:

Quite a bit more is available over the counter here:

Next we drove to Country Club RV to pick up our new RV! Here we are hitching up our 2014 Avalanche 360RB:

The kids wait inside the RV until we’re ready to leave:

Here we go!

We stopped for dinner in Arizona on the way back and captured this blurry portrait of our new monster. More photos coming soon!

When we returned to Las Vegas, we dropped off the new RV on BLM land, then went back to my parent’s house and brought the old RV here too. We finished up at 2:30am, 22 hours after we woke up. Tomorrow we will start moving our belongings across.
The fifth wheel hitch arrived from Amazon on Friday, so today was the day to install it as we are picking up the new RV tomorrow. The rails have to be very carefully positioned in the bed and holes are then drilled through the bed:

Getting the fifth wheel hitch up into the bed:

Both rails installed. Drilling holes in a brand new truck is scary!

Installing the fifth wheel hitch supports:

Tightening the frame supports for hitch:

All done!

We’re sleeping at my Parent’s house tonight and will be leaving here at 5am to head to Yuma for our new RV!
On this, our last day in Death Valley, we went out to Harmony Borax Works to view the equipment that was used to mine borax here before the creation of the park:

Back at Furnace Creek Ranch, we browsed the “rusty stuff” museum. This train was in much better shape back when I came here as a teenager:

On the way out of Death Valley, the kids received their Junior Ranger badges and toured the visitor center. Death Valley is indeed a land of superlatives:

We left Death Valley and overnighted on BLM land just Southwest of Las Vegas. See the trip map for details. Good Shabbos!
This morning Dad and I hiked up Grotto Canyon:

We came to a dry falls, so we backtracked and tried to find a way around:

Unfortunately, our way around brought us to a ridge well above the canyon, so we couldn’t get down:

Meanwhile, we rest of the crew was at the sand dunes nearby:

In the afternoon, we had a surprise birthday for Bubbe:

It was an emotional moment for Bubbe:

I worked on making a balloon dinosaur. I finished it after 15 minutes, only to have Trish pop it while drawing on the face.
